Julian Van Winkle -- 1980s through Early 00s
As the third generation Proprietor of the Van Winkle Family's prized Stitzel Weller Distillery, Julian oversaw the toughest of times from a sales perspective. From the 1980s on JVW shifting bottling from the Louisville Distillery over to their Lawrencburg facility where they bottle their Stitzel Weller Whiskey even after it closed in 1992... The aging environments in Central Kentucky are ideal for aging, especially wheated bourbon and rye whiskey... In addition to family's Stitzel Weller Whiskey, JVW is know to have also sourced a variety of wheated and rye whiskies from other shuttered stills. Many of the Van Winkle Family's most prized bottles contained some very old Stitzel Weller, but alot were also old Bernheim or Boone.
